Risk Management and Insurance (RMI)
The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) track is housed in the finance major and focuses on principles that are related to risk measurement, mitigation and management. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various functional areas of insurance company management including investment and financial policies as well as pricing and underwriting activities. Students will also become conversant on how to measure and manage uncertainty that corporations, small businesses and individuals confront.
Students seeking a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a track in RMI will be required to successfully complete the general education and business core curricula of SHSB including MAT 191 and ECN 353 or STA 340. Beyond this, a total of 18 credit hours are required to complete a track in Risk Management and Insurance. Specifically, students pursuing a track in RMI will be required to successfully complete the following courses:
1. Introduction to RMI
(FIN416)
2. Property and Casualty Insurance
(FIN 418)
3. Corporate Risk Management
(FIN 421)
4. Three additional courses in the RMI track. Each of these courses must be at least 3 credit hours. Courses should be selected in consultation with the student’s advisor.
 
Minors in RMI are available to students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Beyond the requirements of the business core curriculum, a minor in RMI consists of a total of 12 credit hours. Specifically, students pursuing a minor in RMI will be required to complete the following courses:

3. Corporate Risk Management
(FIN 421)
4. One additional elective in the RMI track
