Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Grading Option
Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, regardless of cumulative grade point average or year at Mercer, are permitted to take two courses per academic year on an S/U basis, with the following restrictions:
1. No course that counts toward a student’s major or minor (including required courses in related fields) may be taken S/U, unless the course also counts toward the fulfillment of the student’s general education requirements.
2. No more than two courses that fulfill the requirements of both the major or minor and general education may be taken S/U.
Courses offered with only S/U grading are not counted toward the two S/U courses allowed per year and may not be taken on a letter-grade basis. Courses originally taken on a letter-grade basis may not be repeated on an S/U basis. A student who elects to take a course S/U must do so by the end of the drop-add period in the semester in which the student is enrolled in the course. No change in the grading basis of a course may be requested after the drop-add period ends.
